Nestled in the heart of San Francisco’s Jackson Square, Villa Taverna is one of America’s most prestigious, co-ed private dining clubs. Founded in1958, by then Italian Consul General Pierluigi Alvera, the Villa Taverna has delighted members for generations with world-class wine, exquisite Italian cuisine, unique events and a vibrant community. Once the residence of Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo, and the studio of famed sculptor Ralph W. Stackpole, the Villa Taverna’s home on Hotaling Place is intrinsically interwoven with the fabric of San Francisco history. Honoring this rich heritage with an embrace of the modern era, the Villa Taverna invites members and their guests to explore, celebrate and share the culture, culinary delicacies and the spirit of Italy.
Dress Code
In both the Main Dining Room and Club Room, we maintain an elevated business casual or higher standard of dress. For men, a sport coat or blazer is required. For both men and women, although we don’t prefer jeans, dark jeans in good repair are permitted. The following attire is not permitted: performance vests, graphic t-shirts, shorts, ripped or frayed light denim, athletic shoes, hats, sweatshirts, hoodies, or other athletic clothing. And as a courtesy to all, we request that overcoats, shopping bags, and umbrellas are checked at the entry checkroom and not carried into the Dining Room.
Visiting the Villa
Villa Taverna is located at 27 Hotaling Place – the alley between Montgomery and Sansome and Jackson and Washington streets. We recommend parking on Montgomery and Jackson streets, as well as in the Hilton Garage on Washington Street.
